Learning Targets and Goals
- 1. Can you explain the difference between atoms, elements, molecules, and compounds?
- 2. How do we write the chemical symbols for elements and compounds?
- 3. Can you differentiate between Reactants and Products in a chemical equation?
- 4. How will you set up and demonstrate a chemical reaction? Do you understand how the atoms rearranged to form a new substance in the reaction?
Today in Class:
- 1. First – I checked where each class ended up on your “Atoms in Chemical Reactions” TCi questions worksheet.
- This worksheet is really a crossover between a reading strategy and notes.
- This should have helped you to understand the Law of Conservation of Matter and how atoms are rearranged to form different substances when chemical reactions take place.
- Many students had either completed all of the questions yesterday. Others just needed to complete the last 2 questions, and we finished these together.
Next: “Can You Demonstrate a Chemical Reaction?”
- I explained that student teams would be choosing and demonstrating different chemical reactions.
- You read through: the directions with your teammate(s).
- You chose a chemical reaction from the list to demonstrate!
- You answered the questions on the back of the worksheet to prepare to run your chemical reaction demonstration .
- Some students then had time to complete the reaction demonstration in class! Super Cool!
Homework – No Homework!
