Learning Targets and Goals

  • 1. Did you refer to your list of Materials and your step-by-step set of directions in your Procedure to carry out your experiment?
  • 2. If you hit a hurdle or a block in your experiment, did you and your partner work to solve the Problem of this investigation?
  • 3. Did you run your Control Experiment and understand how to use your Independent Variables in your experiment?
  • 4. Did you record your data on your (rough draft) of a graph or table, recording your Dependent Variables (results) for the Experiment?

Today in Class:

1. First: you and your partner noted Lab Safety guidelines that you should be aware of for this experiment. In each class students noted Glass Safety and Sharps Safety. You should have written a short note about each on your Engineering Design Plan Box Paper.

2. Next, all students checked their completed graph or data table. I checked each of your graphs for the Golf Ball Lab. You should have completed these rough drafts (on the STEM EDP Box Papers) during class yesterday or for homework last night, if you did not complete this during class.

  • You should have shown the X- and Y- axis labels, the sub headings (for the Independent Variable), the title, number scales and metric units.
  • If you did not have some of the labels completed or needed to make a change, I noted this on your rough draft of your graph.
  • You could choose to improve these for tomorrow in blue.

3. Now, most students were ready to start their trials and run these!

  • a. Most teams completed their Control trial in 5 minutes. You should have recorded this result on your Box Paper rough draft. You should have taken a photo of your results.
  • b. After this, you should have run through your Independent Variable Trials. You should have completed 3 or more trials, and recorded the results on the rough draft (on your Box Paper). You should have taken a photo ( you were able to use your phone) of your results.
  • c. Teams completed their trials and then cleaned up their table area, the sinks and the tennis ball containers/golf balls.
  • d. Some teams started to copy their picture and paste it onto a Google.Slide. You will be able to copy your slide and paste it into the class slide tomorrow. Some students began to record their data online, onto their online graph or table.

Homework:

Either copy and paste your 2 photos of your results onto a Google.slide of your own, and label the Independent Variable and Control Experiments

OR

Either copy and paste your 2 photos of your results onto the class Google.slide presentation that was shared with you, and label the Independent Variable and Control Experiments
