Learning Targets and Goals

  • 1. Can you explain the difference between atoms, elements, molecules,  and compounds?
  • 2.  How do we write the chemical symbols for elements and compounds?
  • 3. Can you differentiate between Reactants and Products in a chemical equation?
  • 4. How will you set up and demonstrate a chemical reaction? Do you understand how the atoms rearranged to form a new substance in the reaction?

Today in Class:

1. First – We checked and evaluated the Molecule Madness Models worksheet. You checked your own paper. Some students did not complete their second molecule (back side of the worksheet). We had worked on these in class, Tuesday. I asked you to complete the 2nd molecule over the weekend on a different paper.

You took out your “Atoms in Chemical Reactions” activity worksheet. Most students had noted the Reactants in their chemical reaction on their worksheets and had located the Products as well (#3).

  1. Once you had completed #1-2-3, then you and your partner ran your chemical reaction demonstration. You did great with these! I did not see any teams that did not have success in demonstrating their chemical reaction.
  2. Everyone cleaned up their area.
  3. If you did not complete your demonstration of the chemical reaction – you can choose to run a trial this at home or before school / at lunch Monday.

Homework: No Homework
