Describe the effect humans and other organisms have on the natural world.
Explain how human activities (deforestation, urban development, restoring natural areas) change the surface of the Earth and affect the survival of organisms.
Apply science standards to design a method for monitoring and minimizing human impact on the environment.

Today in Class:
1.First Hour had class- most groups completed their Gather Information concepts and then also ran an extra trial of the Gummy Bear Lab.
2. Pre- Assessment Invasive Species: every student should have completed this survey to check for understanding prior to the Invasive Species Unit (Science; Art; Language Arts)
3. The Seventh Grade split into two groups- half went to Riverside Park in the morning and half went to Riverside Park in the afternoon.
The goals of the hike at Riverside Park were to:
Introduce you to Invasive Species and Native Species: what do these two concepts mean and what are some examples of each?
Help you to understand how Invasive Species travel – by “Vectors.” You should have learned how people, animals and birds can be vectors.
Give you the opportunity to see examples of different plants, trees, birds— both natives and invasives. You should have taken photos of different organisms, as directed by Mrs. Lutke.
Give you an opportunity to hike through a green space. Help you to appreciate the abundance of living organisms in the the Ottawa County Parks. Help you to recognize the challenge of taking care of our green spaces (county parks).
Give you the opportunity to see the different methods that Ottawa County is taking to take care of their parks and rid the natural areas of invasive species. Recognize the environmentally friendly choices we have to rid our natural areas of invasives.
Below are some photos – to share with you of some of the plants, trees and birds that we saw while on our trip.
HomeWork: Complete the Gather Information section of the Gummy Bear Lab. You should list 3 science terms and their definitions. These terms should be concepts that will help you to explain your results. This HW is due Wednesday!
